<![CDATA[Remembering Nancy Reagan]]>Sun, 06 Mar 2016 13:49:22 GMThttp://flagsbysunbuca.com/blog/remembering-nancy-reaganNancy Regan, Former First Lady of the United States of America
July 6, 1921 - March 6, 2016 Picture
Please fly your flags at half mast in honor of our former First Lady, Nancy Reagan until her memorial services have commenced. She passed away peacefully on March 6, 2016.

Nancy Reagan was greatly known as being the First Lady standing beside her husband President Ronald Reagan. They had a passionate love affair in which he claimed was the foundation to his political career as governor of California and President of the United States. “Our relationship is very special. We were very much in love and still are. When I say my life began with Ronnie, well, it’s true. It did. I can’t imagine life without him.”

Nancy was criticized for being too involved with her husband’s political ideas as she served as his advocate and confidant. She was a proposer of bringing all parties together to negotiate with the Soviet Union to stop the cold war. This was during the time when a First Lady’s main job was to sit behind the scenes. She notably cleared the path for future First Lady’s to become more politically involved which is typical and expected today. She also started the youth “Just Say No” drug abuse campaign.

Even towards the end of her life, Nancy Reagan still had a strong voice defending stem cell research to find a cure for Alzheimer’s, which President Reagan was suffering. This went completely against the Republican Party views but because of her tenacious declarations, stem cell research has vastly changed the medical field and has saved many lives in the process.
Nancy and Ronald Reagan are now together again to continue their beautiful love affair. Rest in peace Nancy, you will be missed.
